Bringing the knees forward and the heels up opens the psoas muscles and lengthens the thigh muscles. The legs are able to work more efficiently. This takes the weight off of the shoulders and helps open the chest and lift the shoulders.
Sunburst Yoga Series ~ Crow, Part III

Namaste! Ed and I are fraternal twins. Last week Ed was visiting with me here in Naples, and I asked him if he would film me teaching some yoga. This video is a piece of what we shot together. Because thus far I’ve offered instruction on the Crow and Crane Poses, and because I had a little more to “say,” we shot some more Crow and Crane variations. In particular, we did Adho Mukha Svanasana into Bakasana (Downdog to Crane); Malasana into Kakasana (Low Squat into Crow); Adho Mukha Vrkshasana into Bakasana (Handstand to Crane); and Eka Pada Bakasana (One-legged Crane). Bakasana and Kakasana are good preparations for Tittibhasana, Firefly, and that is what’s coming next in this series (and we’ll be back on the beach, too). Please note: As mentioned in the last video (Part II), there is a difference between Bakasana, Crane Pose, and Kakasana, Crow Pose. Because I have been teaching both as Bakasana for so long, in this video I mistakenly refer to Bakasana as Crow, and Kakasana as Crane. So pay more attention to the subtitles than to the names of the poses I say in the video. Thank you, Ed, “I would be happy to assist you, sir”!
